Rationale
Alpharael is a 5cmc 3/3 that demands a nonland permanent left the battlefield (or a spell was warped) this turn to trigger its Void attack ability — dealing half the defending player's life rounded up. Ward (discard at random) makes it sticky and taxing to remove. Signature in aristocrats/sacrifice shells where permanents routinely die before the attack step, enabling repeated massive life-loss swings. The conditional attack trigger means it's dependent on a supporting engine being active, making it a fringe inclusion without that density.
Learnings (3)
The Void trigger checks if ANY nonland permanent left the battlefield this turn — including your own tokens, opponent's creatures, or sacrificed permanents — so a single Sac outlet activation before attacking satisfies the condition.

Half-life-rounded-up is enormously powerful at low opponent life totals; in a 3-opponent Commander game hitting one opponent at 20 life deals 10 damage per swing, making Alpharael a realistic kill threat after a board wipe or sacrifice loop.

Ward (discard a card at random) is a punishing protection mode in the mid-to-late game when opponents' hands are full, but is nearly free to pay around in the early turns when hands are depleted.
