Rationale

Appa is a 4-mana 2/4 flying legendary that grants flying to one other attacker on attack. The evasion-grant is valuable in go-wide or voltron builds trying to punch through blockers, but the effect is narrow (single target, only while attacking) and the body is undersized for the cost. It's a flavorful role-player but rarely a defining card in any archetype.

Learnings (2)

  • Appa's triggered ability only grants flying to one creature without flying — it does not grant mass evasion, making it much weaker in wide attack strategies than it first appears.

    tagging · claude-sonnet-4-6

  • As a legendary Bison Ally, Appa is currently one of very few cards with those creature types, so tribal synergies are effectively nonexistent outside of Avatar-set-specific support.
