Rationale
A 5-color 5/5 with every keyword that matters (flying, first strike, trample, lifelink, haste) — it attacks immediately and is difficult to block favorably. Its combat trigger turns any Spider tribe into a full-keyword army, making it the defining lord/anthem for Spider typal. The 5-color pip cost severely restricts it to 5-color or near-5-color shells, and the tribal payoff is weak without meaningful Spider density, which is itself a fragile archetype.
Learnings (3)
Spiders are typically defensive creatures (reach, large toughness) so Cosmic Spider-Man's combat trigger granting flying, first strike, trample, and haste fundamentally reverses their defensive profile into aggressive threats — the synergy is transformative, not merely additive.

The 5-color pip cost ({W}{U}{B}{R}{G}) means this card is essentially a 5-color commander constraint in Commander/Brawl; only a 5-color or near-5-color identity shell can run it, and those decks are often goodstuff piles rather than Spider tribal.
tagging · claude-sonnet-4-6
Spider tribal is one of the thinnest supported tribes in Magic, so while Cosmic Spider-Man is the best Spider lord in existence, the payoff ceiling is modest outside of dedicated Spider synergy products.
