Rationale

Dina is a Golgari sacrifice outlet that rewards you with card draw (once per turn) on any creature sacrifice, and an activated ability that converts a sacrificed creature's power into life gain and +1/+1 counters distributed to a target creature. She's a signature commander/engine piece in aristocrats, lifegain, and counters-voltron shells, but requires a steady creature supply and is too slow and build-around for pure aggro or go-wide token strategies that don't sacrifice.

Learnings (3)

  • Dina's triggered draw ability fires on ANY creature sacrifice — including to costs and other outlets — not just her own activated ability, so she pairs particularly well with free/zero-cost sacrifice outlets like Viscera Seer.

  • The activated ability's X equals the sacrificed creature's power, making it dramatically better with large power creatures; sacrificing a 10-power creature yields 10 life and 10 counters, enabling one-shot voltron kills.

  • Dina's draw trigger is once per turn total, not once per activation — a second sacrifice in one turn (e.g. from another outlet) will not draw again, which is easy to misread as a repeatable draw engine.
