Rationale
Doomsday is a 3cmc black sorcery that sculpts a 5-card "pile" library — the namesake of one of cEDH's defining combo lines. You pay half your life to assemble a deterministic win sequence (typically Laboratory Maniac / Thassa's Oracle + draw effect) in the top 5 cards. It's useless outside dedicated Doomsday piles, as it requires a carefully constructed 5-card win package and leaves you at dangerously low life. Signature in doomsday-altwin and lab-maniac-altwin shells; sees play at bracket 4-5 cEDH only.
Learnings (3)
Doomsday is only as fast as the draw engine in the pile: common piles require a cantrip already in hand (e.g. Brainstorm or Street Wraith) to crack open the pile the same turn it resolves, meaning it often needs 5-6 mana total on a single turn.

After Doomsday resolves you have exactly 5 cards in library; any shuffle effect (fetchland activation, opposing Surgical Extraction on a pile piece) can be lethal by decking you, making graveyard hate and library-shuffle effects uniquely dangerous.

In 1v1 Brawl the life-loss is severe at 25 starting life (you drop to ~12-13) with only one opponent to win against before they untap; the combo is tighter to execute here than in 40-life Commander.
