Rationale

5cmc 5/6 menace Zombie God — ETB sacrifices any number of your other permanents and draws that many cards, making it a burst card-advantage engine paired with a massive sacrifice outlet; the replacement effect on death/exile grants resilience by returning to library third from top. Signature in aristocrats and sacrifice shells where it cashes in a board of tokens or expendable permanents for a full hand refill, and relevant in zombie typal as a recursive threat. Loses luster in control (no fodder to sacrifice) and stax-prison (disrupts your own permanents).

Learnings (3)

  • The ETB sacrifice is optional in quantity (zero to all), so Bontu can be cast even with no fodder — you just won't draw; this makes it a clean 5/6 menace beater in a pinch.

  • The library-return replacement effect means Bontu resists graveyard hate (exile effects still trigger it), but also means it cannot be reanimated from the graveyard without an intervening shuffle since it never stays there — plan recursion accordingly.

  • Sacrificing non-creature permanents (lands, artifacts, enchantments) is fully valid, making Bontu an emergency out to convert stuck or useless permanents into fresh cards in non-creature-heavy decks.
