Rationale

Grub is a BR legendary Goblin that flips between two modes: the front face (Warlock) returns a Goblin from graveyard to hand on ETB/transform, giving recursion engine value; the back face (Warrior) attacks and uses blight 1 to copy an opponent's creature as a temporary tapped-and-attacking token that sacrifices itself at end of turn. Together the two faces make Grub a signature Goblin tribal commander/99-card engine that also has synergy with aristocrats and token-go-wide shells via the ephemeral copy tokens. The {B}/{R} pip cost to flip each turn requires both colors, limiting deckbuilding to BR shells.

Learnings (3)

  • The back face's blight-copy token is tapped and attacking when created, meaning it bypasses summoning sickness but also immediately triggers any 'attacking creature' payoffs — be aware it counts toward combat damage that turn.

  • Grub's transform ability fires at the beginning of your FIRST main phase, so you can flip to the Warrior face before combat to get the attack trigger, then flip back during the next turn's pre-combat main phase for graveyard recursion on the ETB.

    tagging · claude-sonnet-4-6

  • The ephemeral copy tokens from the Notorious Auntie face trigger death/sacrifice payoffs at end of step, making Grub a repeatable aristocrats engine when attacking each turn.
