Rationale

Guru Pathik is a 4-mana 2/4 that tutors a Lesson, Saga, or Shrine on ETB (top-5 dig) and distributes +1/+1 counters to other creatures whenever you cast one of those spell types. It's a niche value engine demanding a critical mass of Lessons, Sagas, or Shrines — a narrow tribal/enchantment sub-theme not supported in most Commander shells. Fringe across all formats due to the highly conditional synergy requirements.

Learnings (3)

  • Guru Pathik's ETB finds Lessons (Strixhaven sorceries), Sagas (enchantments), OR Shrine enchantments — a uniquely heterogeneous search pool that rarely has dense overlap in a single deck, so building around it typically requires deliberate multi-theme construction.

  • The counter trigger targets 'another target creature you control,' meaning Pathik himself never receives the counters — this limits voltron lines but makes it a distributed-pump support piece for go-wide boards.

  • Shrines (the Kamigawa shrine cycle) are a very niche card type; in most decks Pathik's payoff will hinge almost entirely on Sagas, making it functionally a saga-matters card with narrow bonus coverage.
