Rationale

High Perfect Morcant is a 4/4 Elf tribal engine: it spreads -1/-1 counters across all opponents on any Elf ETB, threatening to wipe weenie boards and enabling minus-one-counter synergies, while its activated ability (tap three Elves to proliferate at sorcery speed) scales any existing counter strategy. Signature in Elf-dense -1/-1 counter and proliferate shells; the proliferate ability pairs powerfully with infect/toxic and +1/+1 counter engines alike. Requires meaningful Elf density to activate reliably and proliferate is sorcery-speed only, limiting reactivity.

Learnings (3)

  • The blight trigger fires on any Elf ETB (not just Morcant itself), so flicker or mass-ETB effects (e.g. Elvish Visionary loops) can stack multiple -1/-1 counters across all opponents in one turn.

  • The proliferate activation taps three Elves but does not exhaust them as a cost in the traditional sense — those Elves must already be untapped, so using them for mana production before activating is the correct sequencing.

  • Morcant's -1/-1 blight counters and +1/+1 counter proliferation can annihilate opponents' creatures if both counter types are on the same creature, as +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters cancel each other out per game rules.
