Rationale

A 2cmc 1/2 with flying and haste that grows +2/+0 whenever you discard a card. Its evasion and haste make it a reasonable threat in discard/wheels shells where it can swing as a large flier the turn a wheel resolves, but it's otherwise too fragile and conditional for competitive formats. Best in red aggro or wheels Commander builds that generate multiple discards in a turn.

Learnings (3)

  • Hobgoblin's pump is per discard trigger, not once per turn — wheeling 7 cards (discarding your hand of 6+) can make it a 13+/2 flying hasty threat out of nowhere on the same turn.

    tagging · claude-sonnet-4-6

  • Despite being a Goblin and Human, it synergizes primarily with discard/wheels strategies rather than tribal packages; pure goblin or human decks likely prefer creatures with more inherent utility.

  • At 25 starting life in Brawl, the discard pump is still too conditional relative to consistently better 2-drops in red — the card needs dedicated wheel support to threaten lethal.
