Rationale

Iron Man is a 5cmc 3/3 flyer that pumps all attacking creatures +1/+0 and generates a 2/1 flying Robot artifact token whenever you cast a red spell — rewarding spell-dense red builds. Best in tokens-go-wide aggro or spellslinger shells where every red spell multiplies the threat count; the anthem effect and evasive tokens compound quickly. Double-red pip requirement and reliance on red spell density make him more build-around than a generic goodstuff card.

Learnings (3)

  • The Robot artifact creature tokens Iron Man creates have flying, so they both benefit from spell-slinging and stack with the +1/+0 anthem to become 3/1 flyers when attacking — the board scales aggressively in a mono-red spell-heavy build.

  • Iron Man's token trigger fires on ANY red spell cast, including instants and sorceries during your own turn, making him surprisingly synergistic with Guttersnipe-style spellslinger shells that otherwise don't focus on creatures.

  • In artifact-matters shells (e.g. Daretti, Brudiclad), the Robot tokens created are artifact creatures and can be copied or sacrificed for value beyond their combat role.
