Rationale

Krang is an 8-mana (reducible via Affinity) artifact creature that refills your hand on ETB if you're below 4 cards, and scales in power with your artifact count. Signature in artifact-matters shells where Affinity often makes it castable for 2-4 mana, combining a relevant threat body with conditional card draw. Too slow and color-intensive for aggro; control shells rarely need a conditional hand-refill at this cost.

Learnings (3)

  • Krang's draw trigger fires only if you have fewer than 4 cards in hand at ETB resolution — in artifact storm lines where you've dumped your hand to cast artifacts cheaply, this often draws 3-4 cards, making it a surprisingly strong refill after going wide.

  • With even 7 artifacts in play, Krang costs {1}{U}{U} and arrives as a ~8/4, making it one of the more efficient Affinity payoffs in blue for artifact-heavy Commander shells.

  • The draw condition and the pump are separate abilities (ETB trigger and static), so Krang is better as a mid-combo refuel piece than a traditional finisher — decks should plan to cast it into an empty hand.
