Rationale
A 4-mana 5/4 trample that enters with a hexproof counter, giving it built-in protection, and on combat damage to a player, can remove a counter to destroy a target artifact or enchantment that player controls — conditional but recurring hate stapled to an efficient green threat. Signature in voltron/counters-voltron (hexproof counter is protective and removable for value), and midrange shells that want efficient bodies with interaction. The removal is conditional on connecting in combat and the opponent having an artifact/enchantment, limiting its ceiling.
Learnings (3)
The hexproof counter doubles as both protection and a resource — removing it to destroy an artifact/enchantment is a deliberate trade, so decks that can replenish counters (Doubling Season, Hardened Scales, proliferate) let Leatherhead fire her trigger repeatedly.
tagging · claude-sonnet-4-6
Because the triggered ability says 'destroy target artifact or enchantment that player controls,' it only hits the player who was dealt damage, not any opponent — in multiplayer, this means you must connect with a specific player to interact with their permanents.

Leatherhead's hexproof counter only blocks targeting from opponents; once you remove it for the combat trigger, she becomes vulnerable to targeted removal for the rest of the game unless counters are restored.
