Rationale

Leonardo is a 1/3 that scales with your board — gaining +1/+0 for each other creature you control, making him a meaningful threat only in wide boards. His Sneak cost ({W}) lets him arrive as a surprise attacker when the opponent is tapped out on blockers, but he's entirely dependent on creature density to be threatening. Best in aggro go-wide shells where many bodies are already in play; nearly blank in creature-light or controlling strategies.

Learnings (3)

  • Leonardo's static pump counts ALL other creatures you control, not just attackers — so even a wide defensive board makes him a large attacker when sneaked in during declare blockers.

    tagging · claude-sonnet-4-6

  • The Sneak alternative cost requires returning an unblocked attacker to hand, meaning Leonardo is best used on turns where you have multiple attackers and can afford to bounce one — don't telegraph by attacking with only one creature.

  • As a legendary creature, Leonardo can serve as a Brawl commander in white-only shells, but his creature-density dependency makes him very build-around and inconsistent without a critical mass of tokens or weenies.
