Rationale
Malcolm is a 2cmc 2/2 flying haste threat that generates a Clue token on every second spell cast per turn, providing repeatable card advantage in Izzet spellslinger and tempo shells. Its low cost and built-in evasion make it excellent as a commander or 99 in pirate-typal and spell-heavy strategies. In Brawl, the 25-life clock combined with a haste threat and card-draw engine is particularly potent; in Commander it competes with higher-impact 2cmc options but remains solid.
Learnings (3)
Malcolm triggers on your SECOND spell each turn — not each spell — so single-spell turns generate no value; decks need consistent spell density of 2+ per turn to get reliable clues.
tagging · claude-sonnet-4-6
As a 2cmc Izzet commander with haste and flying, Malcolm curves into combat damage on turn 3 while also generating clue advantage, making it a surprisingly aggressive commander option rather than purely a value engine.
tagging · claude-sonnet-4-6
Malcolm's trigger counts spells cast from any zone (hand, graveyard via flashback, etc.), so flashback and rebound spells can reliably hit the second-spell threshold even with a light hand.
