Rationale

5cmc 4/4 Legendary Robot Turtle that bounces an artifact or creature on ETB, then grows via sacrificing artifacts for +1/+1 counters plus temporary menace and haste. It fits artifact-matters and sacrifice shells as both a threat and an outlet, but at 5 mana in a Izzet (UR) cost it's too slow and too mediocre for high-powered play, landing it firmly in fringe territory for Commander and Brawl.

Learnings (3)

  • Metalhead's activated ability requires sacrificing ANOTHER artifact (not itself), so it needs a steady artifact supply to grow; this makes it synergize well with token-generating artifacts like Treasures or Clues.

  • The bounce ETB hits both artifacts and creatures — it can be used offensively (bouncing an opp's blocker) or as self-bounce to re-use your own ETB artifacts, giving it mild flicker-adjacent utility in artifact shells.

  • As a Legendary creature in UR colors, Metalhead can serve as a budget commander for artifact-sacrifice decks, but its 5cmc and modest base stats make it a weak commander option compared to purpose-built Izzet artifact commanders.
