Rationale

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is a 3cmc 2/2 that draws a card once per turn when an artifact enters (fueling itself) and becomes a 6/6 trampler whenever you draw your second card in a turn — a synergistic loop where artifact ETBs trigger card draw which then powers the size buff. It is a signature commander/value engine in artifact-matters shells and rewards cantrip-dense or artifact-heavy builds. At only 3 mana with self-contained draw and a built-in combat threat, it is strong in Brawl's 1v1 context but competes with more powerful dedicated engines in Commander.

Learnings (3)

  • The two triggered abilities form a self-reinforcing loop: artifacts entering trigger card draw, and drawing the second card each turn pumps Moon Girl to a 6/6 with trample — a single artifact cantrip can activate both triggers in one sequence.

  • The artifact draw trigger is capped at once per turn, so high-volume artifact-storm strategies (e.g., Aetherflux Reservoir loops) will not chain multiple draws off a single turn's worth of artifacts.

  • In Commander, Moon Girl is most effective as a value-engine in the 99 of artifact-heavy Simic or four/five-color artifact decks rather than as a dedicated commander, since the once-per-turn draw restriction limits explosive turns.
