Rationale

Nyla is a 4/5 legendary Mole Beast for 5 mana whose ETB exiles a creature card from your graveyard, paying X life to create X Clue tokens (where X is that card's mana value), functioning as a graveyard-fueled card-draw engine; at your end step, if you've cracked all your Clues, the exiled card bounces to hand as a form of soft recursion. Signature in reanimator and graveyard-matters shells that can exploit high-MV creatures (e.g. exile a 6-drop to get 6 Clues, then recur it). The life cost on large creatures is a notable risk, and the Clue-to-hand return is conditional and slow.

Learnings (3)

  • The end-step hand return is NOT reanimation — it only returns the card to hand, requiring you to recast it, making it synergistic with cost-reducers or free-cast effects rather than reanimator cheats.

  • The life-loss scales with the exiled card's mana value, so exiling a 7+ CMC creature in a 25-life Brawl game can be a meaningful chunk of your life total, making high-MV targets riskier in 1v1.

  • If Nyla leaves the battlefield before your end step, the exiled card is still associated with Nyla and will not return to hand — losing Nyla means losing access to the exiled card permanently.
