Rationale

Quintorius is a 5cmc self-contained engine: at each end step he exiles a noncreature nonland card from your graveyard and produces a 3/2 Spirit token, then that Spirit can be sacrificed to cast the exiled card for free (tucking it to library on resolution to avoid permanent exile). This is signature in spellslinger shells that fill the graveyard with instants/sorceries, in aristocrats strategies that want sacrifice fodder, and as a soft reanimator that recurs high-value noncreature spells. He is a removal magnet and needs a graveyard to feed, making him slow in vacuum setups.

Learnings (3)

  • The free-cast ability on Quintorius uses the exile zone as a holding area — cards exiled by previous end steps accumulate, giving you multiple targets to choose from as the game progresses.

  • The 'put it on the bottom of its owner's library' clause means you can loop the same high-value spell repeatedly across multiple turns as long as you keep feeding Quintorius graveyard fodder each end step.

  • Quintorius's end-step trigger requires a noncreature, nonland card in your graveyard at the beginning of the end step — if the graveyard is empty he produces nothing, so decks need consistent self-mill or spell-casting density to keep him active.
