Rationale

Renet is a 5cmc 4/3 flash creature whose ETB bounces every other nonland permanent that entered this turn — a powerful, if narrow, mass-bounce effect that shines when cast in response to an opponent's ETB-heavy turn or during their end step to disrupt a developed board. Flash makes the timing fully reactive, ideal for control and tempo shells. The symmetric clause (bounces yours too) means it punishes itself in flicker or combo decks that want their own ETBs to stick; also anti-synergistic with tokens or go-wide plans that filled the board that turn.

Learnings (3)

  • Renet's bounce only hits permanents that entered THIS turn — it's a precision disruption tool best flashed in at end of opponent's turn or in response to a big ETB chain, not a generalized wrath substitute.

  • The bounce is symmetric: any permanent you played this turn (including Renet if you recur it somehow) also returns, making it actively anti-synergistic with flicker loops or self-ETB chains that try to stack multiple ETBs in a single turn.

  • In Brawl and Commander, Renet is most impactful as a reactive answer to ramp-heavy opponents who just played several permanents in one turn, functioning like a surprise Cyclonic Rift but only for that single turn's entries.
