Rationale

Roalesk is a 4/5 flying trample threat that distributes two +1/+1 counters on ETB and double-proliferates on death, making it a powerful engine in +1/+1 counter and proliferate shells. It's especially potent in infect-toxic decks where the death trigger can exponentially grow poison counters. The double-proliferate on death incentivizes sacrifice strategies to exploit it repeatedly.

Learnings (3)

  • Roalesk's death trigger says 'proliferate, then proliferate again' — both proliferates are part of a single triggered ability, so they cannot be split by responding to the trigger; you get both or neither.

  • In infect or toxic shells, Roalesk's double death-proliferate can close out games from very low poison counts (e.g., 5 poison becomes 10 in two proliferates with no other counters needed), making it a surprise alt-wincon even without dedicated infect creatures.

  • Roalesk pairs exceptionally well with free or low-cost sacrifice outlets (Altar of Dementia, Viscera Seer) in Simic +1/+1 counter decks — recurring the ETB via flicker and then triggering the death proliferate on demand is a defining engine line.
