Rationale

Shadrix is a 5cmc 2/5 flying double-striker that at the beginning of each combat offers two modal triggers, each targeting a different player — generating tokens, drawing cards (with 1 life loss), or distributing +1/+1 counters. The catch is that each mode must hit a DIFFERENT player, meaning you must give at least one mode's benefit to an opponent, making it a signature group-hug or political commander. It's a powerful engine in group-hug and tokens shells but anti-synergistic with pure control or stax strategies that want to deny opponents resources.

Learnings (3)

  • Shadrix's 'each mode must target a different player' constraint means in a 2-player game (Brawl), you cannot give both modes to yourself — you must give one to your opponent every turn, making the political upside a mandatory downside.

  • The double-strike body (2/5 flying double strike) is a legitimate combat threat that can close games quickly with evasion and pump, so Shadrix is not merely a utility piece — treat him as a finisher in practice.

  • In multiplayer Commander, Shadrix is most powerful when used politically: offering the token or counter mode to an ally while taking the draw mode yourself, but savvy opponents will frequently deny cooperation by simply not attacking the Shadrix controller.
