Rationale

Splinter is a 3cmc legendary Ninja commander who doubles all triggered abilities of your Ninja creatures — a massive force multiplier in any Ninja typal deck where ETB and ninjutsu triggers (drain, draw, discard, damage) fire twice. The activated ability grants unblockable to any Ninja for {1}{U}, facilitating ninjutsu repeatedly. Signature in Ninja typal shells as a commander or 99-card engine.

Learnings (3)

  • Splinter's trigger-doubling is a replacement-style static ability that doubles triggered abilities — this includes ninjutsu payoff ETBs (e.g. Fallen Shinobi, Whispering Specter), so landing even one Ninja per turn can generate double the usual disruption.

  • The {1}{U} evasion ability targets any Ninja, not just your own — though practically always used on your own attacker to enable ninjutsu; the hybrid {W/B}{W/B} cost means Splinter fits Esper (WUB) commanders naturally.

  • In a dedicated Ninja deck, Splinter effectively acts as a 'Panharmonicon for Ninjas' but note it only doubles triggered abilities, not enters-the-battlefield abilities triggered by non-Ninja sources — the Ninja creature itself must have the trigger.
