Rationale

The Mycosynth Gardens is a colorless land that taps for {C}, fixes mana at {1}{T}, and most importantly can become a copy of any nontoken artifact you control with mana value X for {X}{T}. This makes it an artifact-doubler in disguise — copying a key combo piece (Mana Crypt, The One Ring, Bolas's Citadel, etc.) for just its mana value. It scales in power entirely based on the density and quality of artifacts in the deck, making it a signature slot in artifact-matters and artifact-combo shells.

Learnings (3)

  • The copy ability makes this land BECOME the artifact (it loses its land types and gains the artifact's name, types, and abilities), which means it can tap for the artifact's mana ability if copying a mana rock — effectively doubling a rock's output at the cost of losing a land drop.

  • Because the X cost is paid as part of the activated ability, copying a 0-mana-value artifact (like Chrome Mox or Mana Crypt with MV 0) costs only {T} with X=0, making this potentially free to convert into a Mana Crypt copy.

  • The land loses its land type when it becomes a copy, so it can be affected by artifact removal (Naturalize, Vandalblast) while in its copied state — a notable vulnerability not present on most lands.
