Rationale

A 2cmc 3/2 menace that can't be countered and punishes any player who casts spells for less than their mana value — hitting cascade, convoke, emerge, improvise, alternative costs, and especially free spells (Force of Will, Evoke). The triggered damage is a powerful stax-style tax in a hatebear body; particularly devastating at higher brackets where pitch counters, fast mana combos, and discount mechanics run rampant. In Brawl at 25 life, 3 damage per discounted spell is extremely punishing and the uncounterable clause ensures it resolves.

Learnings (3)

  • The trigger fires on ANY player casting a spell for less than its mana value, including the controller — be careful running this alongside your own cascade, convoke, or emerge spells.

  • The uncounterable clause is a static ability on the spell itself, so it dodges Pyroblast, Swan Song, and other countermagic that would otherwise answer a 2cmc threat at these brackets.

  • This card is a hard counter to Cascade (which always casts the cascaded spell for free, triggering 3 damage to the caster), making it a strong sideboard-style inclusion against known Cascade commanders like Imoti or Yidris.
