Rationale

5cmc colorless artifact — choose a creature type on ETB; creatures of that type get +1/+1 (lord effect), and you draw a card whenever you cast a creature of that type. Defines tribal Commander decks as a self-contained anthem + draw engine in a single slot. Weaker in Brawl at 5 mana with only one opponent to race, and requires significant tribal density to justify the cost.

Learnings (3)

  • At 5 mana colorless, Vanquisher's Banner slots into any tribal Commander deck regardless of color identity, making it one of the few universal tribal draw engines available to mono-color and five-color tribes alike.

  • The draw trigger fires on CAST, not ETB — so counterspelled tribal creatures still draw a card, which is notably resilient compared to ETB-based draw engines.

  • In high-density tribal decks (Goblins, Elves, Zombies), the repeatable card draw often outweighs the anthem bonus; in low-density tribal goodstuff lists it can sit inert for several turns.
