Rationale

Korvold is a 5cmc 4/4 flying Dragon that forces a permanent sacrifice on ETB and each attack, then draws a card and grows by +1/+1 each time ANY permanent is sacrificed. He functions simultaneously as a self-feeding sacrifice outlet, a repeatable card-draw engine, and a scaling evasive finisher — making him the defining Jund sacrifice commander. He is signature in aristocrats, treasure, food, eggs, and lands-matter shells where cheap fodder fuels an ever-growing Korvold that refills your hand every turn. He is a removal magnet and requires a density of sacrifice-able permanents to function consistently.

Learnings (3)

  • Korvold's ETB trigger forces a sacrifice immediately, so he can draw a card the moment he enters the battlefield even without attacking — this makes him excellent value even if immediately removed afterward.

  • Because Korvold draws a card for EACH permanent sacrificed (not just the forced sacrifice), he combos explosively with Dockside Extortionist into Korvold loops or with Fetchlands/Clues/Food/Treasure token chains, often drawing 5+ cards in a single turn cycle.

  • Korvold's attack trigger also forces a sacrifice, meaning aggressive play actively depletes your board — builds should include high volumes of cheap token generators or self-replacing permanents (Treasure, Food, Clue) to sustain the engine without running out of fuel.
