Deck Guide

Why Play This Deck

Torbran transforms every small burn spell into a serious threat, turning 1-damage effects into 3-damage haymakers. This optimized burn build leverages his ability to create an overwhelming damage engine that can quickly close games through direct damage and aggressive creatures. The deck maximizes low-cost red damage sources that benefit from Torbran's +2 damage boost, creating explosive turns that can end games by turn 5-6.

Play Summary

Deploy cheap creatures and damage-dealing permanents in the early turns, then drop Torbran on turn 4 to amplify all your red damage sources. Use efficient burn spells to control the board while pressuring opponents' life totals. The deck excels at dealing massive chunks of damage once Torbran is online - a simple Shock becomes a Lightning Bolt, and Lightning Bolt becomes a 5-damage spell. Close games with evasive threats like Goldspan Dragon or burn opponents out with direct damage.

Key Synergies

Thermo-Alchemist's 1 damage becomes 3 with Torbran, creating a powerful repeatable damage engine that triggers off every instant and sorcery you cast.

Eidolon punishes low-cost spells with 2 damage, but with Torbran it deals 4 damage to opponents while you can play around it with higher-cost spells.

1-power creatures deal 3 damage on attack with Torbran instead of 1, making aggressive starts extremely punishing and turning utility creatures into serious threats.

With both damage triplers, Lightning Bolt deals 15 damage - an instant win condition against most opponents that showcases the deck's explosive potential.

Steam-Kin enables explosive turns with cheap spells, while Light Up the Stage provides card advantage to maintain pressure through the mid-game.

Opening Hand

Look for 2-3 lands, early creatures like Fanatical Firebrand or Scorch Spitter, and cheap burn spells. Torbran in your opening 7 is ideal but not required - the deck functions well without him early. Prioritize hands that can apply immediate pressure while building toward the Torbran power spike on turn 4. Avoid keeping hands with only expensive spells or no early plays, as the deck needs to establish board presence quickly to maximize damage output.
